Home decorating
a family affair with Annie's

Established in August of 1982, Annie's Furniture and Home Accents in Excelsior Springs proudly serves customers in and around the Kansas City area. Annie's has seen many changes in the home furnishing business in the past two and a half decades and maintains a hometown charm and personal attention from its staff not often found in big business and discount furniture stores.

It's easy to feel at home at Annie's Furniture because the place is managed by a pair of sisters.

Jill King-Hilke, manager/designer and Joy King-Fahrmeier, assistant manager/designer said the family atmosphere at the store makes for a relaxed and genuine experience for their customers.

"We enjoy what we do, and we enjoy doing people's homes," King-Fahrmeier said.

"We feel like it shows in what we do," King-Hilke said.

The sisters pointed to their growing customer base as proof the business's customer satisfaction was one of its strengths. Repeat customers come from as far as Overland Park, Kans., and Blue Springs.

"Our business has grown because of the customer satisfaction," King-Hilke said.

Annie's Furniture boasts a vast selection of furniture and accessories in a variety of styles including old world, primitive, country French Tuscan and lodge. Don't worry if you're unsure what you're looking for, the sisters said. About 85 percent of their business involves in-home consulting for their customers, King-Fahrmeier said.

"We guide the customer in the right direction of what's going to make the biggest difference for their home," King-Fahrmeier said.

The sisters are always looking for new trends in furniture and accessories. In fact, the sisters recently returned from the World Furniture Market in Las Vegas, where they found new and exciting items and ideas for turning a house into a special and inviting home.

"We want to see what's new out there and offer these new things to our customers," King-Fahrmeier said before the trip.

Even during tough economic times, when family budgets are increasingly important, King-Hilke said Annie's Furniture is the smart home design move to make. It's all about customer satisfaction, she said.

"People want to be assured now more than ever that they're going in the right direction and that's what we offer," King-Hilke said.

Annie's designers have been involved with special benefit projects such as the St. Jude's Dream Home Giveaway, where they showcased their decor and design throughout the house. In the past, the sisters also provided their interior design services for the Kansas City Symphony House fundraiser and the Touched by Cancer show home at Tiffany Springs. They often work with home builders to decorate and furnish show homes for open houses and invite builders to check out their services.
